A city in southeastern Saitama Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1966. It occupies alluvial lowlands on the north bank of the Arakawa River. In the early modern period, there was Toda Ferry on the Nakasendo (National Route 17). After World War II, it rapidly developed as a manufacturing area, and the population increased rapidly. There are three stations on the Saikyo Line, which opened in 1985, and the Tokyo Outer Ring Expressway and the Shuto Expressway pass through the area. Industries include food, publishing, printing, and transportation machinery. To the west, under the Arakawa River embankment, there is the Toda Rowing Course. 18.19 km2 . Population: 123,079 (2010). 埼玉県南東部の市。1966年市制。荒川北岸の沖積低地を占める。近世には中山道(国道17号線)の戸田の渡しがあった。第2次大戦後は工場地帯として急速に発展し,人口も急増。1985年開通の埼京線に3駅があり,東京外環自動車道,首都高速道路が通じる。食品,出版,印刷,輸送用機械などの工業が行われる。西方の荒川堤防下には戸田漕艇(そうてい)場がある。18.19km2。12万3079人(2010)。
