Pumpellyite (English spelling)

Its chemical composition is Ca ₄ (Mg,Fe ²⁺ )Al ₅ Si ₆ O ₂₃ (OH) ₃ ･2H ₂ O, and it is one of the rock-forming minerals belonging to the monoclinic crystal system. It has fibrous or columnar crystals elongated along the b axis, and good cleavage in {001} and {100}. Its specific gravity is 3.18-3.23, and its Mohs hardness is 6. It has a characteristic blue-green color, but can also be green or brown. It is often found in metamorphic rocks of the lanthanite schist facies, but can also appear as an altered mineral in cavities in basalt and spilite, or in neutral to acidic plutonic rocks.
