Japanese: 袁安臥雪図 - えんあんがせつず（英語表記）Yuán Ān wò xuě tú

A subject of Chinese painting. Yuan An (?-92) was a person of the Later Han Dynasty. His courtesy name was Shaogong, and he rose to the position of governor of Henan. On a day of heavy snowfall in Luoyang, the governor of Luoyang was inspecting the city when he found Yuan An's house alone, with the door closed, lying down inside. When asked why, he replied that he was worried about food shortages in the city. It seems that this subject has been painted since ancient times as a kind of moralistic subject, but many of the extant pieces are landscape paintings. The one attributed to Yan Hui (National Palace Museum, Taipei) is a typical example. [Ebine Soro]

中国画の画題。袁安(？‐92)は後漢の人。字は邵公，官は河南の尹にまで進んだ。洛陽が大雪の日，洛陽の長官が市中を見まわっていると，袁安の家のみ戸を閉ざし，中で横臥していた。その理由を問うと，市中の食糧不足を案じてそうしていると答えたという。一種の勧戒的画題として古くから描かれたらしいが，現存遺品は山水画的なものが多い。伝顔輝筆(台北故宮博物院)はその典型。【海老根聰郎】
