Doshomachi

This is a drug wholesale district in Senba, Chuo Ward, Osaka City. The name of the district comes from the place name Doshodani. It started when Konishi Kichiemon opened a drug business here at the order of the shogunate during the Kan'ei era (1624-1644). In 1658 (Manji 1), a wholesale district of stock companies was formed, and by 1666 (Kanbun 6), the number of stores had reached 108. Currently, major pharmaceutical companies such as long-established Takeda, Tanabe Mitsubishi, and Shionogi are lined up. Sukunahikona no Mikoto Shrine, which enshrines the drug god, is commonly known as Shinno-san, and is the guardian deity of the town, and is crowded with pilgrims during the festival on November 22nd and 23rd.

大阪市中央区船場(せんば)にある薬種問屋街。町名は道修谷とよばれた地名に由来する。寛永(かんえい)年間（1624～1644）に小西吉右衛門が幕命でこの地に薬種業を開業したのに始まり、1658年（万治1）には株仲間の問屋街を形成し、1666年（寛文6）には108軒に及んだという。現在、老舗(しにせ)の武田、田辺三菱、塩野義(しおのぎ)など大手製薬会社が軒を並べている。薬種神を祀(まつ)る少彦名命神社(すくなひこなのみことじんじゃ)は通称「神農さん(しんのうさん)」といい、町の氏神として、11月22～23日の祭礼には参詣(さんけい)人でにぎわう。
