A major silver ore mineral in the Ag 2 S cubic crystal system (→ cubic crystal system). Forms clumps of regular hexahedral or regular octahedral microcrystals. Hardness 2-2.5, specific gravity 7.2-7.4. Metallic luster, graphite gray. Polymorphic with goethargite. Found in low-temperature epithermal quartz veins of the Neogene period, along with other silver minerals, native gold, and sulfide minerals. Ag2S等軸晶系（→立方晶系）に属する銀の主要な鉱石鉱物。正六面体または正八面体微晶で塊状をなす。硬度 2～2.5，比重 7.2～7.4。金属光沢，帯黒鉛灰色。針銀鉱と同質異像。新第三紀の低温の浅熱水石英脈中に，ほかの銀鉱物，自然金，硫化鉱物などとともに産する。（→銀）
