Year of death: 19th July 1st (26th August 1184) Year of birth: Tenei 3 (1112) A military commander in the late Heian period. Saburo. Uda Genji. His grandfather Tsunekata lived in Kowakidate, a lower-ranking official in Omi Sasaki Manor (Azuchi-cho, Shiga Prefecture). His father was Suesada, and his mother was the daughter of Abe Munenori. He was adopted by Minamoto Tameyoshi, and when he came of age, he was given the sword Tsunagiri, a title that had been passed down since Yoshiie (Shujusho). After he served Minamoto Yoshitomo and was defeated in the Heiji Rebellion (1159), his territory was taken by the Sasaki Takauji (a family of Shinto priests) who supported the Taira clan, and he and his son Sadatsuna and others went down to Oshu relying on his aunt's son Fujiwara Hidehira, staying at the residence of Shibuya Shigekuni in Sagami. In 1180, Sadatsuna and his brothers made a great contribution to the uprising of Minamoto no Yoritomo, and Hideyoshi and his son regained possession of Sasaki Manor. In 1184, he defeated the remnants of the Taira clan from Iga and Ise in Aburahidani, Koga County, but his general Hideyoshi was killed in battle. His son Sadatsuna became the governor of Omi Province, and many of his descendants became governors of other provinces, becoming powerful vassals.
