[Born] Kaioh 5 (585) [Died] March 19, 630. A famous prime minister in the early Tang Dynasty, Chang'an, China. Born in Duling, Jingzhao (Chang'an County, Shaanxi Province). His pen name was Keming. His grandfather Gao (Ko) was Minister of Works in the Sui Dynasty. During the Daye period of the Sui Dynasty (605-617), he passed the election for official position and became Fuyang Wei, but left his post and retired to the countryside. When Emperor Gaozu of the Tang Dynasty pacified Chang'an, he joined the Qin Dynasty's army under Li Shimin (later Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty) as a counselor for the Qin Dynasty. He was one of the 18 scholars of the Literature School. Fang Xuanling recognized his talent, and after Emperor Taizong ascended to the throne, he became the left concubine of the prince, Minister of War, and then the right secretary of the Ministry of War, and was enfeoffed as the Duke of Cai.
