[Died] August 12, 1861, Ilion, New York. American arms manufacturer and weapon improver. Founder of the Remington Gun Company, currently one of the largest small arms manufacturers and distributors in the United States. In 1816, he invented a flintlock rifle on his own at the blacksmith shop run by his father, who made horseshoes and farm equipment. Although this was not a new invention, it was so highly accurate that orders flooded in and the company developed into a specialized rifle manufacturer. He continued to work hard, improving the barrel and becoming the first American to successfully bore a barrel. During the Civil War, he delivered a large quantity of small arms to the federal government, paving the way for the company to become a supplier of firearms and ammunition to the military, and subsequently established an unshakable position in both World War I and World War II.

アメリカの兵器製造業者，兵器の改良考案家。現在アメリカで最大の小火器製造販売会社の一つレミントン製銃会社の創設者。蹄鉄や農機具をつくっていた父の経営する鍛冶工場で，1816年独力で燧発式ライフル銃を創製した。これは新発明ではなかったが，著しく精度が高かったことから注文が殺到し，小銃製造の専門工場に発展した。その後も銃身を改良し，アメリカで初めて銃身の中ぐりに成功するなど努力を重ねた。南北戦争で小火器を大量に北部連邦政府に納めたことから，軍への銃器，弾薬納入業者としての道が開かれ，その後第1，2次両世界大戦で不動の地位を確立した。
