Heredia - José-Maria de Heredia

Japanese: エレディア - えれでぃあ(英語表記)José-Maria de Heredia
Heredia - José-Maria de Heredia

A French poet born in Cuba. His father is Cuban and his mother is French. He went to France in 1851 and studied at the Lycée de Senlis. He returned to Cuba briefly from 1859 to 1861, and began writing poetry under the influence of Lecomte de Lille. He later studied at the École des Monographs in Paris and associated with the Ethnographical School poets. His poetry was devoted to the refinement of the 14-line poem (sonne), and in his neat verse form he depicted and sang of Greek mythology, historical facts and pastoral landscapes from the Roman era, the world of medieval religious paintings, gold and silver work, the adventures of the Spanish conquerors of the New World, the brave figures of Japanese samurai, and the sublime beauty of the nature of Brittany. These fourteen-line poems, published in various magazines and three editions of the "Modern Continental Poetry Collection," were compiled into a single volume in 1893 titled "Victory Pai," marking the culmination and end of the Continental School aesthetic. He also produced the long epic poem "The Golden Conquerors" (included in the "Second Continental Poetry Collection," 1871), making him a representative poet of the final period of the Continental School.
