Abbreviation for Pulse Code Modulation. A method for encoding and decoding analog audio data, used in music CDs and WAV files. An analog signal is sampled at regular intervals, quantized, and converted into a digital signal. PCM is expressed by the sampling frequency (unit: kHz) and the number of quantization bits (unit: bits). The higher the value, the better the quality. A device that plays PCM is called a PCM sound source. Source: ASCII.jp Digital Dictionary About ASCII.jp Digital Dictionary Information |
