Karim Shahir

Japanese: カリム･シャヒル（英語表記）Karim Shahir

A Mesolithic site located east of Kirkuk in northeastern Iraq. The Karim Shahir culture is designated as the reference site. The site was excavated during a prehistoric archaeological survey of Kurdistan led by RJ Braidwood, and is attracting attention as an example of the transitional period from a gatherer society to an agricultural society in the Zagros foothills. The site has only one cultural layer, but its area is 60-70 m2, which is quite large for the time. Chipped stone tools have also been excavated, but there are very few fully processed typical stone tools.

イラク北東部，キルクークの東にある中石器時代の遺跡。この遺跡を標準遺跡としてカリム･シャヒル文化が設定されている。遺跡はR.J.ブレイドウッドが中心になって行ったクルディスターン地方の先史遺跡調査の際に発掘調査され，ザーグロス山麓地域の採集社会から農耕社会への過渡期の状況を示すものとして注目されている。遺跡の文化層は1層のみであるが，その範囲は60～70m2あり，当時としてはかなり広い面積をもつ。打製石器も出土しているが，完全に加工された典型的な石器はきわめて少ない。
