Docetism (English spelling)

A heretical tendency in Christology in the early Christian church. It denied that Jesus Christ had a real body or that he truly suffered, believing that all of this was merely an appearance, based on the idea that matter was evil. We know from the New Testament that this tendency existed as early as the 1st century (John 1 and 2, Colossians), but it became popular among the Gnostics in the 2nd century. Cerinthus and Serapion are said to be its representatives. It is also called doxology or the doxology of Christ. The term comes from the Greek word dokein (to appear).

初期キリスト教会におけるキリスト論に関する異端的傾向の一つ。物質を悪とする立場からイエス・キリストが真正の肉体を有していたことやその真の受難を否定し，これらはすべて見せかけだけのものであるとした。1世紀にすでにこの傾向が存在していたことは新約聖書から知られるが (ヨハネ1，2書，コロサイ書) ，2世紀になってグノーシス派のなかで盛んとなった。ケリントス，セラピオンらがその代表者といわれる。仮現説，キリスト仮現説ともいわれる。表記の由来はギリシア語の dokein (現れる) からきている。
