A full-length novel by Yumeno Kyusaku. Published in 1935 (Showa 10). He began work on it in 1951 under the title "Liberation Treatment of the Madman," and rewrote it many times, eventually reaching 1,200 pages in length, making it a masterpiece that Yumeno said he "lived to write." The protagonist wakes up in the psychiatric ward of Kyushu Imperial University, unable to remember not only his past but even his own name. Professor Wakabayashi of forensic medicine then comes to him and explains that the protagonist is the subject of an epoch-making treatment based on a new theory by Professor Masaki of the psychiatric department.

夢野久作の長編小説。1935年(昭和10)書下ろし刊行。26年から《狂人の解放治療》と題して着手，何度も書き直し，〈これを書くために生きてきた〉というほど畢生（ひつせい）の大作で1200枚に及んでいる。九州帝国大学の精神科病棟で目を覚ました主人公は，自分の過去ばかりか名前も思い出せない。そこへ法医学の若林教授が来て，主人公が精神病科の正木教授の新学説にもとづいた画時代的な治療の実験材料だと説明してくれた。
