Giants in Greek mythology. When Cronus castrated Uranus, the blood that flowed from the wound caused Gaia, the earth goddess, became pregnant and created them as enemies to punish Zeus and the Olympian gods for imprisoning the Titans in Tartarus. As soon as they were born, they challenged the gods using burning trees and boulders as weapons, but when the gods realized that they needed human cooperation to defeat them, they enlisted the help of Hercules and, after a fierce battle, finally killed all of their powerful enemies.
