1913‐75 Greek architect and urban planner. Born in Bulgaria to Greek parents, he was educated in Athens. Before and after World War II, he served as Minister of Housing and other heads of Greek urban and regional planning departments, and as a consultant to the United Nations. He went into exile for a time, and after returning to Greece, he established the urban planning firm Doxiadis Associates. While working on urban planning in the Middle East, he also published his own urban theories in his journal Ekistics and in his books. He proposed the form of future cities, including the Dynapolis concept, which directs the axis of development of a city in one direction and controls its growth, and the Ecumenopolis theory, which describes a path for a city to expand to the entire globe and reach a stable, static state.
