Japanese: アタマジラミ - あたまじらみ

A type of parasitic insect louse that infests human hair. Along with pubic lice and body lice, it is one of the human lice that infest only humans. The eggs hatch in about a week, and after 2-3 weeks they become translucent, grey adults measuring 2-3 mm in length. The adult lifespan is about 30-45 days, with each female laying around 5-6 eggs per day near the base of the hair. Adult lice suck blood, causing itching through an allergic reaction. Worldwide, they often infest children. They do not infest people through dirty habits, and head lice do not transmit any diseases.

寄生昆虫であるシラミの一種で、人間の頭髪に寄生するもの。ケジラミ・コロモジラミとともに、人間だけに寄生するヒトジラミの一つ。卵は約1週間でふ化し、2～3週間で体長2～3ミリの、半透明で灰色の成虫となる。成虫の寿命は30～45日ほどで、メス1匹が頭髪の根元近くに1日5～6個ほどの卵を産む。成虫は吸血し、アレルギー反応でかゆみを生じる。世界的に、子供に寄生することが多い。不潔にしていることにより寄生するものではなく、またアタマジラミから病気が感染することはない。
