...A god worshipped in the storeroom. Storerooms are called heya, oku, nema, etc. and are used as a couple's bedroom, a delivery room, and a place to store clothes and rice. They are the most closed, dark, and private space in the house that cannot be invaded by others. Storerooms are also women's spaces, and the key to the storeroom, where clothes are stored, was a symbol of the housewife's rights, along with the rice scoop that governs diet. The custom of worshiping storeroom gods is widespread in Shiso District, Hyōgo Prefecture; Tohaku District, Tottori Prefecture; Maniwa, Kume, Tomata, and Katsuta Districts, Okayama Prefecture; the Oki Islands area of Shimane Prefecture; and Goto, Nagasaki Prefecture, and is considered to represent an ancient form of a household god.

...The name of a room in a private home in the Edo period used by the head of the household, his wife, and small children to sleep. It is also called "nando," "oku," or "heya," and has special names such as "chouda," "nedoko," and "nejiki."
