Japanese: 出羽弁 - いでわのべん

Years of birth: Unknown. A poet of the Heian period. Daughter of Dewa no Kami Taira no Suenobu. She served Emperor Goichijo's Empress Ishi and her daughter, Emperor Goreizei's Empress Shoshi. In "Eiga Monogatari," she is described as "a very charming and sensible person, and therefore of good conscience (a person who understood the art of elegance and was thoughtful)," and was highly esteemed as an excellent lady-in-waiting. After Ishi's death, people said that Dewaben had died of grief, as she was so caring towards her master. As a poet, she was particularly close to the family of Minamoto no Tsunenobu, and volumes 31 to 36 of "Eiga Monogatari" are said to be based on a family anthology by her, other than the extant "Dewabenshu." Her representative poems include "Even enduring it was painful, if I had no tears for my innumerable body," which sings of secret love. <References> "The Life of Dewaben" by Matsumura Hiroshi ("Rekishi Monogatari Kou and Others")

平安時代の歌人。出羽守平季信の娘。後一条天皇の中宮威子やその娘の後冷泉天皇の中宮章子などに仕え,『栄華物語』では「いとをかしうすき者なるものから,有心なる(風流を解し思慮深い)」と評され,優れた女房として重んじられた。威子の死後,人びとに,出羽弁は悲しみのあまり死ぬのではないか,といわれたほど主人思いでもあった。歌人として,源経信の一族とはことに親しく,また『栄華物語』巻31から36は,現存する家集『出羽弁集』とは別の彼女の家集がもとになっているといわれる。代表歌は,忍ぶ恋を歌った「忍ぶるも苦しかりけり数ならぬ身には涙のなからましかば」など。<参考文献>松村博司「出羽弁の生涯」(『歴史物語考その他』)
