Japanese: オサゾウムシ - おさぞうむし

A general term for insects belonging to the family Rhynchophoridae in the order Coleoptera. This includes the Japanese giant weevil, the banana weevil, and the rice weevil. The broad two-ringed segment (the bulb) at the tip of the antennae is firm, and only the base of this segment (the first segment) is shiny and lacking dense fine hairs. The dorsal surface of the body is flattened, and the proboscis does not bend strongly, which distinguishes it from other weevils. The banana weevil Cosmopolites sordidus is about 11 mm long.

甲虫目オサゾウムシ科Rhynchophoridaeに属する昆虫の総称（イラスト）。オオゾウムシ，バショウオサゾウムシ，コクゾウムシなどが含まれる。触角の先端の幅広い2環節(球稈（きゆうかん）部)は堅固で，この部分の基部(第1節)だけに密な細毛がなく光沢があること，体の背面が平圧され，口吻（こうふん）は強くは曲がらないことなどの特徴で，他のゾウムシ類から分けられている。バショウオサゾウムシCosmopolites sordidusは体長約11mm。
