...The third type, and the most common, is a journey to a place that was once a sacred place of indigenous belief but has since been converted into a sacred place of Catholicism. There are many sacred places of this kind in Mesoamerica, such as Zapopan (near Guadalajara), Guadalupe, and Chalma (all in central Mexico), Ocotlán (Puebla, Mexico), Izamal (Yucatan Peninsula), and Esquipulas (Guatemala). In Peru, there are many in the Cuzco region, and Coillul Rity is particularly well known.
