A bill of exchange is a consignment from the issuer to the payee, a third party, to the payee or his/her instruction to pay a certain amount. The requirements for bills are stipulated in the Bills of Exchange Law (Law No. 20 of 1932). A bill of exchange is a payment consignment from the issuer to the payee, and the act of the payee assuming the obligation to pay the bill amount in response to this is called acceptance, and by accepting, one becomes an acceptor. A bill of exchange may be transferred by endorsement. To receive payment, the holder must present it to the payor or paying agent. In the case of bills payable at a fixed date, at a fixed time after date, or at a fixed time after sight, presentment for payment must be made on the day payment is due and on the two following trading days. Bills of exchange are often used for international settlements, as they facilitate settlement between distant creditors and debtors without the direct transportation of cash.
