Tulsidas (English spelling)

An Indian Brajvakar and Awadhi poet. An ardent follower of Rama. As a child, he struggled as a beggar, but was protected by a temple and educated. He had a family, but abandoned it to become a wanderer. He was a gifted poet, and was skilled in free verse, short poems, and epic poems, leaving behind 12 masterpieces. He is especially famous for his Brajvakar poems, Kabitāwari (a collection of poems) about the story of Rama and Rama devotional works, Gītāwari (a collection of songs) about the story of Rama, and Binaepatrika (a collection of supplication poems to the gods). However, it is his epic poem of Rama devotional works, Ram-charit-manas (Lake of Rama's Actions), written in Awadhi, that has made him immortal.
