Bellona Island

Japanese: ベロナ[島]（英語表記）Bellona Island

It is an uplifted atoll located in the southwest Pacific Ocean, about 164 km south of Guadalcanal Island in the Solomon Islands. It is elliptical in shape, with an area of about 20 km2. The population is 761 (1976). Except for the northwestern tip, hills 60 to 80 m above sea level surround the outside of the island, and the inland area, which was once a lagoon, forms a long, narrow, flat basin. The climate is hot and humid all year round, with the average daytime temperature exceeding 30°C. Southeast trade winds blow from April to November, and northwest or west winds blow from December to March. The annual rainfall is more than 3,000 mm.

南西太平洋，ソロモン諸島のガダルカナル島の南方約164kmにある隆起環礁。長楕円形をなし，面積は約20km2。人口761(1976)。北西端部をのぞき，標高60～80mの丘陵が島の外側をとり囲み，旧礁湖である内陸は細長く，平坦な盆地を形成する。気候は一年を通して高温多湿で，昼の年間平均気温は30℃をこえる。4月から11月にかけて南東貿易風，12月から3月にかけて北西ないし西風が吹く。年間雨量は3000mm以上になる。
