Lake Okutama - Okutama

This is an artificial lake located upstream of the Tama River, on the western edge of Okutama Town, Nishitama District, Tokyo. Construction of Ogouchi Dam began in 1938 (Showa 13) to supply water to Tokyo residents. It was temporarily suspended during World War II, but resumed in 1948 after the war, and was completed in 1957, creating a lake. The total cost was about 20 billion yen, 947 households were relocated, and 87 people died in the line of duty. Ogouchi Dam is a non-overflow type linear gravity concrete dam with a height of 149 meters, a length of 353 meters, and a crest width of 11.6 meters, making it one of the largest water dams in the world. The lake has a full water area of ​​4.25 square kilometers, a total storage capacity of 189.1 million cubic meters, and five bridges. It is a popular spot for fishing for rainbow trout, yamame trout, and minnows. It belongs to Chichibu Tama Kai National Park. 20 minutes by bus from Okutama Station on the JR Ome Line.

東京都西多摩郡奥多摩町の西端、多摩川の上流にある人造湖。東京都民の上水道供給のため、1938年（昭和13）小河内ダム(おごうちだむ)が着工、第二次世界大戦で一時中断されたが、戦後の1948年再開され、1957年完成して湖が出現した。総経費約200億円、947世帯の移転家屋と87人の殉職者を出す。小河内ダムは、高さ149メートル、長さ353メートル、頂幅11.6メートルの非溢流(ひいつりゅう)型直線重力式コンクリートダムで、水道用ダムとして世界有数の規模である。湖の満水面積は4.25平方キロメートル、総貯水量1億8910万立方メートル、五つの橋が架かり、ニジマス、ヤマメ、ハヤ釣りの名所となっている。秩父多摩甲斐(ちちぶたまかい)国立公園に属する。JR青梅(おうめ)線奥多摩駅からバス20分。
