This is a theory proposed by F.A. Mesmer, also known as mesmerism. It states that the human body is under the influence of animal magnetism, a type of gas that fills the universe, and that an imbalance of this magnetism within the body leads to illness. Mesmer initially claimed that the centrifugal and gravitational forces that determine the planetary orbits have an effect on the body's organs, based on Newton's law of universal gravitation and Kepler's laws, but later, inspired by the astronomer Maximilian Hell's use of magnets in treatment, he advocated the theory of animal magnetism (1775). F.A.
