The Caucasian languages are further divided into the Abkhaz-Adyghe, Nakh-Dagestan, and Kartvelian groups (also called West, East, and South Caucasian, respectively). The Abkhaz-Adyghe peoples number about 597,000 and live in various parts of the Caucasus, from the Black Sea coast to the central Caucasus, but in the Early Middle Ages they lived as far as the Azov coast.
