Folk dance

Folk dance
Folk dance. It is a dance that has been passed down by local residents in each country in a way that is closely linked to their region or occupation, but in Japan, "folk dance" refers to European folk dance that was introduced after the Meiji period. It is said that this name and concept originated from the dance that arose among peasants in the Provence region of France, which was called "danse populaire," in response to the development of court dance in medieval Europe. In Japan, with the promulgation of the school system in 1872 (Meiji 5), subjects of singing and physical arts (later physical education) were established, and dance-related teaching materials were adopted under the name "play," and some European folk dances were also adopted.
