… The 16th century was the age of Reformation and humanism. The greatest monument of Danish literature was the King James Version of the Bible (1550), whose translation was led by the humanist Christian Pedersen (c. 1475-1554) and the provincial bishop of Zealand, Peder Palladius (1503-60). In the 17th century, works that could be called artistic poetry based on the poetry of classical antiquity appeared for the first time, and the Father of Danish Poetry, Anders Arrebo (1587-1637), compiled the Six Days of Creation (1630-37), modelled on the Holy Week by the French poet du Bartas. Danish Baroque reached its apex with the lyric religious poet Thomas Kingo (1634-1703) (Spiritual Songs, 2 volumes).…
