Denpou Denpofu [Denpo]

〘Noun〙① A type of earthenware made near Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine in Fukakusa, Fushimi Ward, Kyoto City. It is a triple layer of unglazed earthenware of large, medium and small sizes, which pilgrims would purchase on the first day of the horse month at Inari Taisha Shrine and would use it for children's playtime or place it in the soil of the fields as a charm for a good harvest. It is also said to have been used as a roasting pan or tobacco dish. It is said to have got its name from the fact that it was made from soil at the bottom of Denpo Pond on Mt. Inari, or that it was originally made in Denpo Village, Settsu Province (Denpo, Konohana Ward, Osaka City) (Nichijikiji). Denbo. でんぽう デンポフ【伝法】

〘名〙① 京都市伏見区深草の伏見稲荷大社付近で製した土器の一種。大中小三枚重ねの素焼きの土器で、稲荷大社の初午に参詣人が買い求め、子どものままごとに用いたり、田畑の土に入れて豊作のまじないとしたりした。また、焙烙(ほうろく)やタバコの皿として用いられたという。その名は、稲荷山の伝法ケ池の底の土で造ったことによるといい、あるいは当初、摂津国伝法村(大阪市此花区伝法)で製したから(日次紀事)ともいう。でんぼ。伝法焼。→伏見人形。※案内者(1662)二「大小土器の茶碗の勢したるものを、田炮と名づけ〈略〉声々に売けるを手に手に買とり」② ⇒でんぼう(伝法)
