...However, he became interested in the income he could earn from a large number of customers through prints and in educating the public, and in 1833 he published a series of prints called The Life of a Prostitute, which gained him a reputation. As pirated copies soon became widespread, he had Congress pass a copyright law to protect printmakers in 1835 (hence the name Hogarth Act). In the same year, he further increased his fame with the series of prints called The Life of the Prodigal Son, which incorporated various current topics.
