Abbreviation: TBS. One of Japan's leading private broadcasting stations. It operates both television and radio, and is the key station for the JNN (television) and JRN (radio) affiliates. Its network is said to be the strongest in the industry. Founded in 1951 under the name Radio Tokyo, it began radio broadcasting the same year and television broadcasting in 1955. In 1960, it changed its name to its current one. It is also known as "TBS of drama" or "TBS of news." It has also expanded into CS and BS digital broadcasting.
