Born: February 28, 1888 in Kyoto
Died November 18, 1973. Economist from Kyoto. Graduated from the Faculty of Law, Kyoto University in 1913. Became professor and dean of the Faculty of Economics at his alma mater in 1923. Retired in 1942 and became president of Osaka University of Commerce (now Osaka City University). Became professor emeritus at his alma mater in 1948, professor at Osaka Prefecture University in 1955, and professor at Ryukoku University from 1965 to 1969. During this time he was a member of the Japan Academy in 1948 and a Person of Cultural Merit in 1965. He was a pioneer in the study of Japanese economic history, presiding over Japan's first monthly economic history research magazine, Keizai-shi Kenkyu (Economic History Research), and founding the Institute for Japanese Economic History. His major works are Nishijin Kenkyu (1914), A Treatise on the History of Rural Problems in the Early Modern Period (25), Kinsei-sei Feudal Society (28), and Nihon Keizai Shiho-shi (Japanese Economic Thought History Research) (2 volumes, 66). Other works include "Honjo Eijiro Collected Works" (Volume 10, 71).

経済学者。 1913年京都大学法学部卒業，23年母校の経済学部教授，経済学部長，42年退官し大阪商科大学 (現大阪市立大学) 学長。 48年母校の名誉教授，55年大阪府立大学教授，63年退官後同大学名誉教授，65～69年龍谷大学教授。その間 48年学士院会員，65年文化功労者に選ばれた。日本で初の経済史研究月刊誌『経済史研究』を主宰，日本経済史研究所を創設するなど，日本経済史研究の先駆者的存在であった。主著『西陣研究』 (1914) ，『近世農村問題史論』 (25) ，『近世封建社会の研究』 (28) ，『日本経済思想史研究』 (2巻，66) 。ほかに『本庄栄治郎著作集』 (10巻，71) がある。
