A cape jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean at the western end of the Cornish Peninsula in southwest England, UK. In ancient times it was called Cape Belerium, and the present name is an English translation of a Cornish word meaning "end of the earth." Located at 50°04' north latitude and 5°43' west longitude, the cliffs of granitic rock eroded by waves reach a height of 20m. There are many reefs offshore, and from the tip of the cape you can see Longships Lighthouse, which stands on one of these islands, Carn Brass. イギリス，イングランド南西部，コーンウォール半島西端の大西洋に突出する岬。古代にはベレリウムBelerium岬と呼ばれ，現在の地名は〈地の果て〉を意味するコーンウォール語の英語訳。北緯50゜04′，西経5゜43′に位置し，波食による花コウ岩の急崖は高さ20mに達する。沖合には岩礁が多く，岬の突端からはそのうちの一つカーン･ブラス島に立つロングシップス灯台を望む。温暖なため周辺は観光地となっている。【長谷川孝治】
