A cape jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean at the western end of the Cornish Peninsula in southwest England, UK. In ancient times it was called Cape Belerium, and the present name is an English translation of a Cornish word meaning "end of the earth." Located at 50°04' north latitude and 5°43' west longitude, the cliffs of granitic rock eroded by waves reach a height of 20m. There are many reefs offshore, and from the tip of the cape you can see Longships Lighthouse, which stands on one of these islands, Carn Brass. The surrounding area is a tourist destination due to its warm climate. [Hasegawa Koji] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
