Tempozan

Japanese: 天保山 - てんぽうざん

A small hill on the left bank of the mouth of the Ajigawa River in Minato Ward, Osaka City. It was built by dredging the mouth of the river in 1831 and piling up the soil from the dredging. A light was erected on the hill to serve as a landmark for ships entering and leaving the port, so it was also called Mekan-yama (Landmark Mountain). There is a monument from when Emperor Meiji held a naval review here, and the area is now Tempozan Park. Tempozan Pier was the departure and arrival point for the Seto Inland Sea route, but in July 1965 it was moved to Benten Pier in the Ajigawa Inner Port. The Hanshin Expressway Route 5 Bayshore Route (Tempozan Bridge) runs through the mouth of the Ajigawa River to the east of Tempozan, and Tempozan Harbor Village opened in 1990.

大阪市港区，安治川河口左岸にある小丘。天保2 (1831) 年に河口を浚渫，その土砂を積上げて築かれた。丘の上に灯を立てて出入港船舶の目印としたので，目印山とも呼ばれた。明治天皇の観艦式を行なったときの碑があり，現在，一帯は天保山公園となっている。天保山桟橋は瀬戸内海航路の発着所であったが，1965年7月，安治川内港の弁天埠頭に移転した。天保山の東，安治川河口を阪神高速5号湾岸線 (天保山大橋) が通り，90年に天保山ハーバービレッジがオープンした。
