smörgåsbord (English spelling) smorgasbord

...Meat dishes include meatballs made from minced beef, veal, pork, etc., which are found in all countries, and in the northern Lapland region, roast reindeer is eaten. In Sweden, the dining style known as smörgåsbord involves laying out dozens of different hot and cold fish, meat, and vegetable dishes on a large table, and allowing each person to freely choose and eat what they like. In Japan, it is known as a "Viking." In Denmark, smørrebrød, an open sandwich made of thin slices of bread topped with a variety of ingredients such as seafood, ham, sausage, and cheese, typical of a dairy country, is well known.

From [Viking]

...The use of the word "Viking" in this sense has been practiced in Japan since the period of high economic growth. The style originates from a party dish called "smörgåsbord" (smörgås means buttered bread, which is an open sandwich, and bord means table), which was stylized in the 19th century and was created from the custom of placing all the food on the table and sharing it among the people in Sweden since the 16th century. Originally, the smörgåsbord was a culmination of Swedish cuisine, with pickled herring, smoked salmon, herring, cheese, bread, roast pork, gratin, and other colorful dishes lined up on the table, but the dish adopted only the distribution method and was given the name of the medieval Scandinavian navigators, the Vikings.
