Also known as sharecropping. A form of tenant farming. Tenant farmers provide part of the operating capital and their own labor (or part is hired labor), and are loaned land and other operating capital by the landlord. They share the produce with the landlord in a certain ratio. This is a transitional form to modern land lease management, and Japanese kariwake tenant farming is one type of this. 分益農とも。小作制度の一形態。小作者は経営資本の一部と自家労働(一部は雇用労働)を出し,地主から土地と他の経営資本を貸与され,生産物は地主と一定比率で分配する。近代的な借地経営への過渡的形態で,日本の刈分(かりわけ)小作はこの一種。
