[1] [noun] Heavenly water. Sacred water that is said to be in the heavens. Also, water that falls from the heavens, i.e. rainwater. ※Man'yoshu (late 8th century) 18:4122 "When it does not rain and the days are long, <omitted> Like a green baby begging for milk, I look up to the heavenly water and wait." [2] Makura (from the saying that when there is a long drought, people look up to the sky and wait for rain) It is related to "look up and wait." ※Man'yoshu (late 8th century) 2: 167 "People from all over the world look up to the heavenly water and wait , relying on the large ship."

Rainwater. ※Zoku Kojidan (1219) 4: “Placing a bowl in front of the seat, waiting for the water from the sky to be received and drunk.”③ An abbreviation of “Tensuioke (Ten-sui-oke).” ※Haiku-Inuko-shu (1633) 7: “Even in the roof, there is no frog nightingale, plum blossoms sticking their branches into the Ten-sui.”
