A court official in the mid-Heian period. His father was Councillor Arikuni and his mother was Naishi Tachibana Tokuko (the wet nurse of Emperor Ichijo). In 1003 (Choho 5), he was born with the title of Monjo. Thereafter, he held important positions both in Japan and abroad, including Shikibu Sho and Daijo, Rokui Kurando, Dainaiki, Ushoben, Togu Gakushi, Fifth Kurando, Saemon Gonnosuke and Kebiishi, Monjo Hakase, Sashoben, Tanba no Kami, Shikibu no Daifu, and Harima no Kami. In 1045 (Kantoku 2), he was promoted to Junior Third Rank. In 1051 (Eisho 6), he became a monk and took the Buddhist name Sushun. Hino Hokaiji Temple was built by him. His son Sanemasa was highly valued by the Gosanjo and Shirakawa courts. [Kuroita Nobuo]
