A former town in Tamana County in northwest Kumamoto Prefecture. The western part is reclaimed land at the southern end of the Kikuchi Plain, which has been opened up into rice paddies, and the eastern part is one of the prefecture's leading mandarin orange producing areas. It is home to Oama Onsen. In October 2005, it was incorporated into Tamana City along with Yokoshima Town and Taimei Town in Tamana County. 21.48 km2 . 7,189 people (2003).
