Electric contact

Electric contact
This refers to the part in relays and temperature regulators that turns on and off the electric current by making and breaking the contact of conductors. Because the contact part is easily damaged by the arc that occurs when cutting off the electric current, the material must be a good conductor of electricity and heat, have low contact resistance, high melting and vaporization points, be resistant to deterioration by oxidation, and be hard and resistant to wear. Usually, platinum, gold, silver, tungsten, copper, nickel, etc., or alloys of suitable combinations of these are used.
