Electric washing machine

Japanese: 電気洗濯機 - でんきせんたくき

A machine that uses an electric motor to wash clothes. There are agitator type, rotating drum type, and jet type (vortex type), etc. For home use, the jet type, which uses a rotor to jet the washing liquid, is widespread. Two-tub types combined with a centrifugal spin-dryer have been mass-produced and widespread since around 1960, and fully automatic types that do the washing continuously in a single tub have been mass-produced and widespread since around 1965. Currently, washing machines that do everything from washing to drying in a single tub are also sold.

電動機を利用し，洗濯を行わせる装置。攪拌(かくはん)式，回転ドラム式，噴流式（渦巻式）などがある。家庭用としては回転翼で洗濯液を噴流させる噴流式が普及。遠心脱水機と一体となった２槽式は1960年ころから，また，１槽で連続的に行う全自動式も1965年ころから量産され普及。現在では１槽の中で洗濯から乾燥まで行う洗濯機も売り出されている。
