A machine that uses an electric motor to wash clothes. There are agitator type, rotating drum type, and jet type (vortex type), etc. For home use, the jet type, which uses a rotor to jet the washing liquid, is widespread. Two-tub types combined with a centrifugal spin-dryer have been mass-produced and widespread since around 1960, and fully automatic types that do the washing continuously in a single tub have been mass-produced and widespread since around 1965.
