Certain benefits are paid in the event of death, injury, illness, fire, traffic accidents, etc. Large cooperatives that implement mutual aid businesses include the National Mutual Aid Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives (Zenkyoren) based on the Agricultural Cooperatives Act and the National Federation of Workers' Mutual Aid Consumers' Cooperatives (Zenrosai) based on the Consumers' Cooperatives Act. In addition to these, there are also mutual aid businesses conducted under the Agricultural Accident Compensation Act, the Small and Medium Enterprise Cooperatives Act, and the Local Autonomy Act. 共済とは、特定の職場で働く人や特定の地域に居住している人が加入する協同組合等が、組合員の福利厚生、あるいは経済的地位の安定向上のために実施する相互扶助制度を指します。死亡、傷害、疾病、火災、交通事故などの際に一定の給付が行われます。共済事業を実施する協同組合としては、農業協同組合法に基づく全国共済農業協同組合連合会けA全共連)、消済生活協同組合法に基づく全国労働者共済生活協同組合連合会(全労済)等の組織が大きい。このほかにも、農業災害補償法、中小企業等協同組合法や地方自治法により行う共済事業などがあります。
