Dewa fence - Dewa fence

Japanese:
Dewa fence - Dewa fence
An ancient fortress that is said to have been built near the downstream of the Mogami River in the Shonai region of Yamagata Prefecture. Its first appearance in literature was in the entry for July 1, 709 (Wado 2) in the Shoku Nihongi, an imperially appointed historical text compiled in the early Heian period. Since Dewa County was established in Echigo Province in 708 (Wado 1), it is thought that this fortress was built when Dewa County was established. However, its location has not been identified. According to Shoku Nihongi, Dewa Castle was moved to the area of present-day Akita City in 733 (Tenpyo 5) as the sphere of influence of the Yamato government moved northward, and this became Akita Castle. A provincial government office was established in Akita Castle, but due to successive Emishi rebellions, the provincial government office was moved back to the Shonai region. The most likely location for this site is Kinowa Castle in Sakata City, Yamagata Prefecture. ◇It is also called "Dewanoki" or "Ide- no -ki."
