Western-style painter. Maiden name Sato. Born in Tokyo. Spent her childhood in Hanamaki and Morioka, Iwate Prefecture, but lost her hearing in her first year at Morioka Junior High School and dropped out after the third year. Hoping to become a painter, she moved to Tokyo in 1929 (Showa 4) and studied at the Taiheiyo Gakai Institute. She was selected for the Nikaten Exhibition for the first time in 1935, and continued to exhibit every year thereafter, becoming a member of the Nova Art Association. In 1940, she became a member of the Nikaten Association's avant-garde group Kyushitsu-kai, and was also awarded a scholarship at the Nikaten Exhibition, becoming a Nikaten Association associate the following year. She painted her own imaginary landscapes, using city buildings and people as her subject matter, and in 1943 she formed the Shinjingakai with her comrades. After World War II, she participated in the founding of the Japan Art Association and the re-establishment of the Free Artists Association, becoming a member. Her representative works include "City," "The Bridge of Y City," "Standing Statue," and "Canal Landscape."
