Japanology

Japanese: Japanology
Japanology

...The Pacific War made the need for analysis of Japan as a distinct culture more apparent, and the center of Japanese studies shifted to America. Japan's postwar economic success inspired other Pacific countries, and Japanese studies became popular in Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, and other countries. European countries are also expanding the scope of traditional philological methods to sociology and economics, and in English-speaking and French-speaking countries, the term "Japan studies, études japonaises" has come to be used in place of the traditional "Japanology, Japonologie." [Matsubara Shuichi]
[England]
From the late 19th century to the early 20th century, many of the foreigners who studied Japan were born in Britain.
