Lee De Forest

1873‐1961
American inventor. Also known as De Forest. Best known for inventing the triode vacuum tube. Born in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Studied at Yale University, where he earned his doctorate by studying the reflection of Hertzian waves at the ends of parallel wires. Worked for Western Electric, and in 1902 set up his own company, the De Forest Wireless Telegraph Company, but was unsuccessful. In 1906, De Forest added a third grid electrode to the diode vacuum tube invented by JA Fleming, inventing the triode vacuum tube.

アメリカの発明家。ド･フォレストともいう。三極真空管の発明により有名である。アイオワ州カウンシル･ブラッフスに生まれた。イェール大学に学び，平行線端におけるヘルツ波の反射を研究して博士号をとった。ウェスタン･エレクトリック社で働き，1902年には独立してデ･フォレスト無線電信社を設立したが成功しなかった。06年，J.A.フレミングが発明した二極真空管にデ･フォレストは第三電極のグリッドを加えて，三極真空管を発明。
