Deneb - Deneb (English spelling)

The proper name of the alpha star of Cygnus. It is derived from the abbreviated form of the Arabic phrase Al Dhanab al Dajajah, meaning "the hen's tail." The Greeks saw the constellation as a swan rather than a hen, but in any case, this star is in the tail. In the summer night sky, it forms the "Summer Triangle" with Vega, the alpha star of Lyrae, and Altair, the alpha star of Aquilae. Its average apparent magnitude is 1.25, but its light varies by 0.08 magnitudes. Its position on the celestial sphere is 20:41 hours right ascension and +45 degrees 17 minutes declination at the 2000th equinox. It is about 1800 light years away. It is a supergiant star of spectral type A2 that emits whitish-yellow light, with a surface temperature of about 9200K. Its radius is estimated to be about 200 times that of the Sun, and its mass about 25 times that of the Sun. It is approaching the solar system at 5 kilometers per second.

はくちょう座のα(アルファ)星の固有名。アラビア語の「雌鳥(めんどり)の尾Al Dhanab al Dajajah」の後半部が省略された形に由来。ギリシアでは星座を雌鶏ではなく白鳥と見ていたが、いずれにしても、この星は尾の位置にある。夏の夜空で、こと座α星のベガ、わし座α星のアルタイルと結んで「夏の大三角」をつくる。平均の実視等級は1.25等であるが、0.08等の幅で変光している。天球上の位置は、2000年分点で赤経20時41分、赤緯プラス45度17分である。距離は約1800光年。スペクトル型A2の白黄色の光を放つ超巨星で、表面温度は約9200K。半径は太陽の200倍程度、質量は太陽の25倍程度と推定されている。毎秒5キロメートルで太陽系に近づきつつある。
