Kabuki actor. Stage name: Narita-ya. Son of Ichikawa Danjūrō 7th. Adopted by Kawarazaki Gonnosuke 6th, he initially went by the name Kawarazaki Chōjūrō 1st. Blessed with good looks and a good voice, he played both leading and female roles, and as a great star of the Meiji theatrical world, he raised the social status of actors. He created the Katsuragimono style and established the Shin Kabuki Juhachiban. Together with Onoe Kikugorō 5th and Ichikawa Sadanji 1st, he was known as "Dankikuza."

歌舞伎俳優。屋号成田屋。7世市川団十郎の子。6世河原崎権之助の養子となり，初め1世河原崎長十郎を名のった。容姿，音声に恵まれ，立役，女方を兼ね，明治劇壇の巨星として俳優の社会的地位を向上させた。活歴物を創始，また新歌舞伎十八番を制定。5世尾上菊五郎，1世市川左団次とともに「団菊左」と称された。
