Tevfik Fikret
1867‐1915
Turkish poet. Born in Istanbul, he was mentored by the great masters of Tanzimat literature while studying at Galatasaray Lycee. While working as a government official and teacher, he was one of the central figures in the modern literary movement with a strong cosmopolitan and Western-oriented tendency, which was founded in the magazine Selveti Funun. He was also interested in ideological and social issues, and is famous for his poem Ancient History, which satirizes the tyranny of the Ottoman Sultan Abdülhamid II. His works include the poetry collections The Broken Violin and Haluk's Notebooks.

トルコの詩人。イスタンブールに生まれ,ガラタサライ・リセ在学中にタンジマート文学の巨匠たちの薫陶を受けた。役人や教師を勤めるかたわら,雑誌《セルウェティ・フュヌーン》に拠るコスモポリタン的傾向の強い西欧志向の近代文学運動の中心人物の一人として活躍した。思想・社会問題にも関心を示し,オスマン帝国スルタン,アブデュルハミト2世の専制を風刺する詩《いにしえの歴史》は有名である。作品に詩集《壊れたバイオリン》《ハルークのノート》等がある。
