Timariōn (English spelling)

Timariōn (English spelling)
A medieval Greek satire in the form of a dialogue, written in the 12th century. The author is unknown. After attending the festival of Saint Demetrius in Thessaloniki, Timarion falls ill with a fever and is deemed dead while napping. His soul is sent to the underworld, where he meets famous deceased people, but is found to be misdiagnosed at trial and is reunited with his earthly corpse. While using the same form as Lucian's satire, the author satirizes notable people of antiquity and his own time, sometimes giving them a favorable evaluation in contrast to the church's condemnation of them.
